The majestic mountains belong to Central and Western Montana, but the mystical prairie belongs to Northeastern and Southeastern  Montana.  The purpose of this site is to provide Eastern Montana Awareness(TM) Awareness of Eastern Montana's historic sites and landmarks; i.e., history of preeminent military forts and trading posts, its Native American Indian cultural background, its homestead and cattle ranching lore, and the colorful badlands with its dinosaur fossil digs, and of its wildlife, fishing, boating, agate hunting and its camping availability.  And Eastern Montana Awareness(TM) of its energy destiny and its commerce.

Montana is a leading energy state.  Coal resources are plentiful in Southeast Montana, and oil and gas are plentiful in Northeast Montana.  The Bakken Formation has a large presence in Richland, Roosevelt and Sheridan Counties.  Sidney, MT (map) has become the "Oil Capitol of Northeast Montana."  The government recently estimated in April 2008 that up to 4.3 billion barrels of oil can be recovered from the Bakken formation in North Dakota and Montana, using current technology.  The U.S. Geological Survey called it the largest continuous oil accumulation it has ever assessed.  Eastern Montana can, and will, assist this country to become energy independent.  Eastern Montana is the Energy Region of Montanatm.

Eastern Montana has much to offer the tourist, vacationer who is a "rock hound", amateur archeologist, wildlife enthusiast, or "historical buff."
