Glendive, Montana (MT)       a perspective of this historic town...

The downtown Historic District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places... and the Yellowstone River which has its origin in Yellowstone Park flows through the middle of the city.  The meandering river is a source of recreation, agate hunting and fishing.  If you have not searched for Montana Agates, you are missing something.   Glendive has a memorable museum and is close to the Makoshika State Park.  General Custer and the 7th Calvary supposedly stayed in the area before moving on to the Little Bighorn.   The general and the 7th should have stayed in the area an extra day, or two!

Frontier Gate Museum has displays that range from prehistoric times to the 20th Century.  Major displays include fossils, buffalo, Indian, homesteaders, cattlemen, settlers, railroad, Civil War, and other numerous displays.  The museum is open mid-May to mid-September.

If your travel takes you west, on the same day, or the next day, via the smooth-flowing Interstate 94 be sure to stop off and visit the  Prairie County Museum in Terry, Montana.  The museum has an early homesteader's home, a replica of an early school, and much more.  The museum is open seasonally so verify availability before your visit.

Camping, lodging and food facilities are available.  Some of the best Montana Agates are found in the Glendive and Terry area.
